Felsenberg Runde – Ginster yellow, dandelion meadows and evening light over gentle hills: this tour has more to offer than expected.
What to expect on the Traumschleife Felsenberg Runde
I was honestly skeptical when I first read the name “Traumschleife”. That sounds like a tourist promise that rarely delivers. But the Traumschleife Felsenberg Runde proved me wrong. The tour combines mixed forest trails, open field paths with panoramic views, blooming wildflower meadows and one of the most beautiful evening light moments I’ve experienced in a low mountain range landscape – and all on a compact route that’s easy to fit in even on a weekday.

The highlights along the route
Forest clearing with conifer silhouettes
Shortly after the start, the path leads into a dense mixed forest. At a clearing, the thicket opens for a moment – and you can see how the silhouettes of individual conifers rise above the deciduous trees. No dramatic summit view, but exactly the right spot for a first break. I opened my water bottle there and just listened for a moment. Birds, wind, nothing else.
Field paths with views of gentle hilltops
As soon as you leave the forest, the atmosphere changes completely. The path runs along field edges, the terrain drops gently to the left, and to the right the view opens onto a row of hills typical of this low mountain range region. In clear weather you can see several summits layered one behind the other – no spectacular Alpine panorama, but that’s exactly what makes this landscape: quiet, wide, unhurried.
Wildflower meadow with buttercups
A little further on, a meadow awaits that glows yellow in spring and early summer – probably buttercups, possibly also Butterblumen, I’m no botanist. But photographically, it’s gold. Best in the early morning or just before evening, when the light falls at a flat angle and the colours look rich and saturated. Stay on the path – the meadow isn’t fenced off, but that doesn’t mean you should trample through it.
Forest edge with wind turbines in the background
Then comes a scene I hadn’t expected: a dandelion meadow right at the forest edge, behind it – at some distance – several wind turbines. That sounds like a disturbance, but it’s actually a striking visual motif. The contrast between the natural flower meadow in the foreground and the rotors in the background tells you something about the landscape as it is today. Ideal for wide-angle shots. The forest edge itself provides good shade in summer heat.
Ginster bloom in evening light – the best stop on the tour
The best part comes at the end. A section along the forest edge that glows in brilliant yellow in the evening light – Ginster in full bloom. If you plan the tour so that you arrive there around 19 or 20 o’clock, you’ll get a light that photographers would make a special trip for. The grass path continues gently, you don’t need to rush. Just slow down and look.
Practical information for your tour
- Getting there: The exact starting point of the Traumschleife Felsenberg Runde is located in the area (location unknown) – check the current signage on site in advance or the Komoot map for the entry point.
- Parking: Official Traumschleifen starting points generally have designated hiking car parks. Arriving early is worthwhile, especially at weekends.
- Best time of year: Early summer for the wildflower meadows and Ginster bloom, autumn for the forest atmosphere. The tour can be done regardless of the weather, though field path sections can become slippery when wet.
- Equipment: Sturdy hiking boots are perfectly sufficient. No climbing sections, no exposed spots. Bring water and something to eat – places to stop for refreshments are not guaranteed along the route.
- Refreshments: Check locally for guesthouses or cafés near the starting point – availability depends greatly on the exact location.
- Camera: Absolutely. Especially for the Ginster section in the evening and the flower meadows in midday light.
Conclusion
The Traumschleife Felsenberg Runde isn’t a tour that blows you away – it’s one where you realise after two hours that you’ve been grinning the whole time. Wildflowers, forest edge, wind turbines, Ginster yellow: that sounds like a random mix, but it fits together surprisingly well. For everyone who doesn’t always need a summit to come home satisfied.
