🚗 Why an electric car is perfect for hiking

Range anxiety about electric cars persists stubbornly. In practice, however, this fear often turns out to be unfounded. Many drivers cover fewer than 5,000 km per year. I myself drive an average of 1,200 km per month and enjoy no longer having to make an extra trip to the petrol station.
Thanks to my employer, I can charge my electric car during working hours. I know my vehicle’s charging times precisely and plan charging efficiently into my daily routine.
🥾 Planning hiking tours with the electric car
My planning starts early in the morning. Depending on my mood, I look for specific highlights such as waterfalls or panoramic views. Once I’ve found a destination, I use platforms like Outdooractive to find suitable GPS data, which I then import into Komoot.
I then check on ChargeFinder whether there are charging stations near the starting point. If a station is reachable within 1 km, I plan my route so that I start there. While I’m hiking, my car charges.
With the app ChargePrice I compare the prices of the available charging stations and choose the cheapest option. Discounters like Aldi often offer low rates of around 0,29 € per kWh.
✅ Conclusion
With the right planning, electric mobility can be combined excellently with hiking. The combination of modern technology and experiencing nature makes every trip a special experience.
Electric car for hiking: my 3 practical tips
- Plan charging: Factor in a charging stop at the start or end point of the tour, rather than stopping along the way “just in case”.
- Assess range honestly: Most tours are well within everyday range – range anxiety is often unfounded.
- Use everyday routines: Charging at home or at your employer’s saves the extra stop entirely.
