Why I’m turning my back on Komoot
I was a committed Komoot user for a long time. I created highlights, maintained tours, wrote reviews – not for points, but to help others. Yet that’s exactly where the problem lies. Because at some point it was no longer about content, but only about ranking. And I learned that the hard way. I had set myself a goal: becoming a pioneer. A sign that I really know my way around a region. That I walk routes, not just mark them. I deliberately hiked tours, maintained highlights and was on the verge of receiving the pioneer badge. But then someone came along who had never walked any of the routes – and simply used my highlights. Within no time at all he collected thousands of points. Through sheer activity, not through real experience. I could watch as my work brought him the glory. And Komoot? Didn’t respond. No interest, no protection of content.
Komoot experience: my conclusion
My Komoot experience is mixed: the tour planning is strong, but the struggle for ranking took the joy out of it for me. For pure navigation the app remains usable – but my motivation to maintain content there is gone. Where my tours take me, you can see at my tours.
