🧭 Starting point in Osterbrücken

The starting point of the tour is Osterbrücken. Even here you can sense the special character of the region: tradition, agriculture and nature are closely intertwined. A small bench and a signpost invite you right at the start to take a short break or snap a first photo. From here the route heads out into the wide landscapes of the Ostertal.

🌊 Rewilding of the Oster

One highlight along the route is the rewilding of the Oster. Information boards provide a clear explanation of the Bach-Aue-System and how natural habitats are being restored. Particularly impressive are the stations on the design of the longitudinal profile and the still waters in the floodplain, which serve as habitat for many animal species. It is worth taking a close look here, as with a bit of luck you may spot dragonflies, frogs or even rare birds.

💧 Pflanzenkläranlage Neumühle

An interesting stop is the Pflanzenkläranlage Neumühle. Here, wastewater is treated naturally through reed beds. Information boards provide insight into how it works and show how modern technology and nature can harmoniously interact. An example of how environmental awareness and innovation are put into practice right on the spot.

🦅 Bird station & observation

For nature lovers in particular, the Vogelstation im Ostertal is a highlight. Information boards introduce species such as the great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker and the colourful bullfinch. From a small observation point, you can watch the bird life undisturbed. A pair of binoculars in your rucksack pays off here, to spot even the shyer inhabitants of the forest.

⚒️ History & village life

History also gets its due on this tour. In Osterbrücken, information boards recall the old coal mine that provided jobs in the 19th century but has long since become part of history. Also worth seeing is the first public village well, which once supplied people and livestock with water. Both are impressive testimonies to how closely the lives of the people were intertwined with nature.

🌬️ Windpark Haupersweiler

A modern contrast to the historic stations is the Windpark Haupersweiler. The large wind turbines shape the landscape and stand for the energy transition in the region. Information boards explain the technology, output and contribution to CO₂ savings. A good place to pause for a moment and feel the blend of tradition and progress.

🥾 Nature experience in the Ostertal

The paths lead through varied landscapes: shady woodland, open fields, meadows and streams. Time and again, beautiful views open up over the Ostertal. In the interplay of sun and clouds, dramatic lighting moods reveal themselves, which are particularly rewarding for photography enthusiasts. Rest areas and benches along the way invite you to take short breaks.

  • The route is family-friendly, but in places can be challenging with a pushchair.
