Bevor die Welt ERWACHT

The book is written in German.

Eight summer mornings, walked alone and early, between Saarland, Pfalz, Hunsrück and Luxembourg. “Bevor die Welt ERWACHT” is my new book in the series “Wandern mit Verstand”. It tells of trails where I met almost no one.

What it's about

Between 14 June and 15 August 2026, I set out at the crack of dawn eight times. Alone, without hurry, and mostly when the day had not really begun yet.

The result is a book with the subtitle “Acht einsame Sommerwanderungen zwischen Saarland und Luxemburg”. It is less about arriving than about being on the way.

What awaits you

The trail often begins right in the village, at a castle or a village square. After only a few steps, shady deciduous forest takes you in. Moss-covered rocks line narrow gorges, streams accompany the path, and between the trees stand ruins from past centuries: an imperial portal, a keep, a rock church in the cliff face.

Those who go early see deer, foxes and hares before the day begins. Some climbs come right at the start, others save their strength for later. In between lie quiet springs, a waterfall over moss-covered boulders, meadows with fallow deer and views over valleys and wind turbines.

The chapters include the Traumschleife Altlayer Schweiz, the Mullerthal W7, the Nahequelle Pfad and the Rundwanderweg Karlstalschlucht.

Who it's for

The book is for you if you like being out early and value the calm of a forest path more than a crowded summit terrace. It is also for you if you hike alone or would like to try it once.

And it is for you if you want to take a look at a hike and read up on it in peace before you lace up your boots.
