Burgblick-Runde
📍 Starting point & getting there
The Burgblick-Runde starts at the car park near Burg Lichtenberg close to Thallichtenberg (Kreis Kusel). Directly below the largest castle ruin in the Pfalz, there is a spacious car park that is usually not overcrowded even in good weather. You can get there via Kusel or Pfeffelbach; bus connections to the castle are also available – ideal for anyone who wants to travel in an eco-friendly way. From the very start you can feel it: history is in the air here.
🚶 Tour character
The Burgblick-Runde is an approx. 8 km long, varied circular hike with everything a good Pfalz tour needs: sweeping views, flowering meadows, quiet paths and a touch of the Middle Ages. The route is well signposted, family-friendly and without any notable ascents – ideal for those who like to take it easy, photographers or hikers with light luggage. The tour runs mostly on gravel or natural paths, with repeated views of the striking walls of Burg Lichtenberg.
🌿 My highlights along the way
The first glance back at the imposing castle wall – especially in the morning light
Blossoming fruit trees along the path – spring at its finest
A small rest area with a table and a panoramic view over the Glantal
The interplay of light and shadow in the open deciduous forest
And again and again: the castle – sometimes far away, sometimes close, but always present
For me, the **Burgblick-Runde** was one of the most charming short tours in the Kusel area. No overcrowded paths, but plenty of variety and a clear structure. If you like hiking with a camera, you won’t be disappointed here – because nature and architecture come together in a very special way.
